A British Airways plane encountered technical problems and was forced to land.
A British Airways flight from London to Beijing made an emergency landing in Siberia due to technical issues.
The Boeing 747 successfully touched down at Irkutsk Airport in Siberia, after experiencing problems with the aircraft’s navigational systems, Interfax News reported.
270 passengers and 16 crew members were taken to nearby hotels and since they did not have Russian visas, did not have to clear customs, but were told they would have to remain at the hotels.
“The passengers’ passports have been taken and they have been given copies,” a Russian airport official said.
The flight information on British Airways’ website confirmed the plane had made a stopover in Irkutsk and said the flight would be taking off again for Beijing on Thursday.
