A gigantic vase positioned in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square has caused immense controversy online, after its cost was revealed in a Chinese newspaper.
Chinese internet users have criticized the excessive cost of the enormous red pot, which houses fake flowers and imitation peaches, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
Over 570,000 yuan (approximately AU$100,000) was spent on the mammoth vase, while decorative flowers scattered around Beijing for China’s upcoming National Day were halved.
“Who permitted spending taxpayer’s money in this way?” a Sina Weibo user wrote.
“570,000! That money could be put to much better use,” another Weibo user said.
Sina Weibo is the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.
