AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa

The Bangkok-based Minor Group’s first foray into the Seychelles market, AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa occupies a splendid location on a small, private cove on Barbarons beach on the west side of Mahe, the largest of Seychelles’ islands.  The commercial and administrative centre of the country, the island is home to Victoria, the national capital, where the annual Carnaval International de Victoria puts this Indian Ocean nation in the spotlight with an event celebrating the joyous nature of island life in general and Seychelles’ unique culture in particular.

One look at the astonishing blue sea through AVANI’s very large lobby pavilion will win over first-time visitors to Seychelles and surprise return visitors more accustomed to resorts with facilities relatively far from the water’s edge.  Here at AVANI, the Indian Ocean is never out of sight, and it often seems as if it is within arm’s reach.  Though the resort has just over 100 rooms, the low-rise construction and plentiful vegetation on expansive grounds never has a feeling of being busy and overcrowded.  With the beach so close, there is no need for the buggy system used at many other resorts in the country, meaning there is no need to endure the wait for them in those resorts where accommodation is often far from the water’s edge.

Under the astute leadership of Executive Chef Ashley Coleman, the restaurants of AVANI provide guests with extremely flavourful meals throughout the day.  Melbourne-born Coleman has taken his Victorian roots and marinated them in Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean for more than a decade, accumulating a unique culinary background culminating in a body of culinary knowledge now put to good use in Seychelles at AVANI’s Elements and Tamarind restaurants and the Gravity bar .  For a special dining experience, a private dinner beachside on the sand makes for the perfect Seychelles memory.  Thai cuisine is exceptionally delicious at AVANI thanks to the hotel’s connection to Thailand; in addition to a Thai chef who has worked with Chef Coleman in Thailand, the spa manager is also Thai and supervises the relaxing treatments and facilities for guests with careful supervision.

AVANI makes an ideal base for visiting Seychelles during this week’s Carnaval International de Victoria, the highlight of a busy calendar of events in Seychelles.  Check the very helpful website of the Seychelles Tourism Board for more information about the many festivals taking place throughout the year.  With Air Seychelles now extending its network into Paris, Hong Kong, and Mumbai, it has never been easier to reach the beautiful islands of Seychelles from Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
