After arriving at Vienna Airport at 5:25am I decided to wander around the shops, cafes and restaurants to pass the time before my 10:25am connecting flight to Linz.

Unfortunately I was underwhelmed to say the very least – in my opinion the entire airport is in desperate need of a makeover – so after just half an hour I decided to ditch the shops in favour of curling up with a good book at my departure gate.

Four and half hours, two red bulls and half a toblerone later I was beyond relieved that it was finally time to board my flight.

The 30 minute flight was operated by a Dash 8-314 aircraft which has just 13 rows of seats in a 2-2 layout.

I was staring out the window mesmerized by the aircraft’s large four-bladed propellers when I was graciously served a slice of traditional Linz cake.

Shortly after we began our descent into Linz’s Blue Danube Airport and I caught my first glimpse of the picturesque city below.
