“Another fresh new year is here. Another year to live…to love and laugh and give”
William Arthur Ward.
This quote forms the inspiration behind the “Love & Joy” theme of this year’s Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations.
On New Year’s Eve (31 December), the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will stage a “pyromusical”, interweaving pyrotechnics with fireworks, special lighting effects and music, over the iconic Victoria Harbour and its breathtaking surrounding scenery to ring in the New Year.
This year, the fireworks will be more than just sparks lighting up the sky. Each burst in the night sky will represent someone’s smile, love or dream – creating smile and heart-shaped symbols of hope across the spectacular harbour.
Complementing the show will also be various greetings in several languages displayed on the LED screen on the façade of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, creating a loving and joyful atmosphere for visitors from around the world.
To share the excitement with global TV audience, the HKTB will provide satellite feed of the entire event for use by television broadcasters worldwide as the clock strikes midnight.
