Flight Review China Eastern MU 562 Sydney to Shanghai Business Class

China Eastern plane at SYD

China Eastern‘s courteous staff displayed attentive assistance right from the moment I arrived at Check-in. While a family group was taking a long time to check in at the Business Class desks, I was escorted to another service desk where a friendly and helpful employee handled the formalities. The supervisor came over to make sure that all the Business Class services were being administered properly, including issuance of the lounge pass for use of the Qantas Business Class lounge pre-flight.

Dinner is served

Boarding took place as normal and the flight proceeded without ado. The Business Class cabin of this Airbus A330 was configured in a staggered 2-2-2 layout, making it feel spacious and uncluttered. The in-seat massage function induced a state of relaxation as boarding continued.

From a big, comfortable seat

A hot lunch was served soon after takeoff, offering three options (chicken, beef, fish) for the main course. China Eastern is constantly striving to improve its inflight product, and the quality of the food served was noticeably tastier compared to meals served on the same flight four months ago. The pre-landing dinner was likewise enticing.

The entertainment system, too, seemed to have been upgraded, now offering video on demand with full start/stop/rewind/fast forward capabilities. The selection of programming was diverse and entertaining and helped pass the time on the ten-hour flight. Flight attendants constantly circulated throughout the cabin, refilling glasses without needing to be asked and generally watching out that every Business Class passenger was well looked after.

Pudong Airport was rather hushed for our evening arrival, which served to expedite Immigration formalities. Free of checked baggage, I was able to go directly to the Maglev station for a 300 kilometre-per-hour train ride to Pudong’s Longyang Station, from where it was an easy transfer to the vast Shanghai Metro for a ride to She Shan National Tourist Resort Area, where a beautiful and quiet room at Le Méridien She Shan Shanghai awaited, proffering a good night’s sleep after a day of flying.
