Shanghai invests billions in tourism

   
     

Shanghai government has released plans to dedicate time, money and effort into transforming the city into a world famous tourist destination.

As part of the city’s 12th Five Year Plan between 2011 to 2015, the government said it will invest up to CNY40 billion in a bid to increase revenues by up to 70 percent, China Hospitality News reported.

The city’s government expects revenues to increase to CNY520 billion by 2015 as well as create up to 300,000 jobs.

Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China head Yu Zhengsheng told the source that the plan highlights the step to develop the city’s tourism industry into a “strategic pillar”.

The Five Year Plan also aims to boost domestic visitor numbers up to 240 million and international numbers to 10 million.
