Melbourne Marriott Hotel senior associates “dress as they started”

On Friday 20 April, 2018 senior associates at Melbourne Marriott Hotel went back in time and came to work dressed in the department uniform they wore on the first day of their career with Marriott International. Designed to showcase the associates’ journey with Marriott International and inspire their fellow employees, it was just one of many events organised by the company as part of its global employee engagement program called Journey Week.

Kelvin Ramm, Melbourne Marriott Hotel’s General Manager, started in finance but chose to dress as a chef for the day, as he wanted to get some experience working in the food & beverage department; Raj Kakarla, the hotel’s Director of Operations, who started his career in front office management, came dressed to impress; Amin Sajib, the hotel’s Director of Finance, who started his career in housekeeping, armed himself with a vacuum for the day; whilst Emma Martin, HR Coordinator, who started in food & beverage, once again donned her waitress uniform.

Journey Week is a brand program designed to position Marriott International as an employer of choice to both current and new talent. Between 16-20 April, career coaching sessions, resume and interview workshops, diversity celebrations and hospitality student engagement events were held to promote career development opportunities across Marriott International’s 600+ properties in the Asia Pacific region, where it plans to add approximately 19,000 jobs by 2020.
