AirPlus International has been recognised as Travel Partner of the Year at the 2018 btTB-GBTA Travel Management Awards.

Presented at the 2018 btTB-GBTA Annual Conference, the annual award recognises the supplier which best embodies the concept of supply chain partnership – a vendor whose success depends on its clients’ success, while at the same time contributing to its clients’ successes.

The award was accepted by new AirPlus International Country Manager – Australia, Danielle Jones. Commenting on the award, Danielle said:

“Our number one goal at AirPlus International is to be a genuine partner in our clients’ success. We endeavour to be the go-to source of advice and support for our clients on all things travel – from ensuring travel processes are seamless or helping improve compliance with travel policies, to embedding technology into travel payment processes and managing travel costs.

“To be recognised for this effort through the btTB-GBTA Travel Partner of the Year Award is truly rewarding and humbling.

“I believe the award win is a testament to the fantastic team we have at AirPlus International and the great work they are doing supporting our clients.

The news follows AirPlus International’s appointment of Danielle Jones to head up the travel payment business’ operations in Australia and New Zealand. The international provider of payments solutions for the day-to-day management of business travel appointed Danielle to take over responsibility from David Newington at the start of 2018. David has moved into a regional role for AirPlus International within the Asia Pacific region.

Danielle has been working at AirPlus International for over 10 years in key sales and management roles, and in this time has demonstrated her leadership in corporate travel management. Her specialities include delivering efficiencies and cost savings in corporate travel, booking and payment processes for corporate travel, travel agency bookings and chargeback processes, and travel policy and compliance. Prior to joining AirPlus in 2007, Danielle worked for airlines and travel wholesale companies.

Danielle will now be in charge of both the Australian and New Zealand teams across the Trans-Tasman region and hopes to leverage her extensive contacts in the industry to launch new products, and build market share and brand awareness in Australia and New Zealand.

Danielle believes her biggest challenges in the new role will be the continued improvement of high levels of customer service and the growth of AirPlus New Zealand. Commenting on her new position at AirPlus, Danielle said: “I’m fortunate to have an experienced and driven team of people behind me and if I am lucky enough to inspire future female leaders in the finance and technology sectors then that would be the best reward.”

In her new role Danielle offers some crucial advice to travel managers in Australia: “Our annual International Management Survey (ITMS) revealed that travel managers in Australia predict a decrease in business travel in 2018. I strongly believe this prediction may be the result of an increased amount of pressure to reduce costs and find savings, combined with varying economic forecasts among Australian states. My advice to travel managers is to keep an eye on new technology trends such as virtual payments and assess the expectations of travellers to help meet the increasing demand for smooth and seamless travel processes.”

For business travellers, Danielle believes the biggest issue is adhering to their own organisation’s travel policy. As the popularity of sharing economy services such as Uber and Airbnb increases, Danielle says “…business travellers will need to ensure these are accepted by their companies as well as check they’re covered from an insurance policy perspective.”

Danielle believes the biggest driving forces behind international and state travel this year will be compliance and duty of care. “It’s important for companies to be on top of travel payments to make the most of their payment solution, generate potentially big savings, understand their costs better and exercise a duty of care.”

Danielle adds: “AirPlus offers a centralised payment product which removes manual processes, both from finance and accounts departments, and from travellers themselves. Our reports provide travel managers with the ability to easily identify travel booking leakage and address the reasons behind this.”

A true travel connoisseur, Danielle loves visiting new places and has travelled to more than 50 countries.  She spends her free time with her boxer dog Bruno and two year old son Harvey, catching up with friends at BBQs or holidaying in WA.
