Broadway Collection shows sweep the 2018 Tony Awards

The Band’s Visit wins 10 awards including Best Musical

The newest musicals in The Broadway Collection took home 15 awards at the 72nd annual Antoinette (Tony) Perry Awards ceremony, recognising theatre professionals for their achievements on stage, on June 10, 2018 in New York City. Winning shows include The Band’s VisitSpongeBob SquarePants: The MusicalRodgers & Hammerstein’s CarouselMy Fair Lady and Once on This Island.

The Band’s Visit, the mesmerising new musical attracting multicultural travellers from across the globe, won an outstanding 10 awards, including Best Musical. The talented members of the cast and crew also took home awards for Best Performance of an Actress in a Leading Role, Best Performance of an Actor in a Leading Role, Best Featured Actor in a Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Orchestrations and Best Sound Design of a Musical.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical, the brand-new, family-friendly hit show, was awarded Best Scenic Design of a Musical, while classic revivals such as Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s Carousel and My Fair Lady collectively took home three awards. Best Featured Actress in a Musical and Best Choreography went to Carousel. My Fair Lady was recognised for Best Costume Design of a Musical.

Rounding out Broadway Collection show wins was Once on This Island, surprising audiences with the award for Best Revival of a Musical. A relatable, universal tale of love, the production celebrates bringing audiences of all ages and backgrounds together.
