Australians have been told to get to Malaysia now as the 2011 Tourism Malaysia Roadshow rolled into Sydney last night.

Tastefully introduced as the ‘meat in a South East Asian sandwich’ (with Thailand and Indonesia as the bread, and Singapore as the salad), Malaysia is hoping the nation’s alluring attractions, combined with the strength of the Aussie dollar, will draw even more tourists from down under to its shores.

“There’s never been a better time to get to Malaysia,” Tourism Malaysia international marketing deputy director (Americas, Europe, Oceania) Syed Muhadzir Jamallulil told e-Travel Blackboard.

Following a presentation by Tourism Malaysia on updates to the NTO’s Australian website, its new Facebook page, and the new on-line agent training programme, were short briefings on regional destinations such as Sabah and Sarawak, various properties around the country, and Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines.

Attendees were also updated on the latest offerings to Malaysia from Intrepid Travel and Qantas Holidays.

Held in the Tea Room of the QVB, guests of the exclusive event were given the opportunity throughout the night to win several prizes, with two lucky winners taking home generous airfare and accommodation packages.

The Roadshow moves on to Melbourne tonight.
