SilkAir offers Daily Flights ex Cairns
SilkAir today celebrated the launch of daily services from Cairns to Singapore, with direct flights increasing from the current five times weekly owing to increasing demand.
The expansion to daily services will see the total number of SilkAir seats per week from Cairns to Singapore increase by 40%.
The introduction of daily services also coincides with the fourth anniversary of SilkAir flights to Cairns, with the service initially launching on 30 May 2015.
Singapore Airlines Regional Vice President South West Pacific, Mr Philip Goh, said the increase was testament to the demand for both inbound and outbound travel to Far North Queensland.
“We’ve seen a sustained increase in demand for flights from Cairns to Singapore and beyond, and we’re excited to be able to offer daily services to our customers in northern Queensland,” Mr Goh said.
“Since launching our Cairns service four years ago on a circular routing via Darwin three times per week, we’ve grown steadily to daily, thanks to the tremendous support of our customers and partners, Cairns Airport, Tourism and Events Queensland and Tourism Tropical North Queensland.
“We look forward to continuing to promote to the world all of the magnificent attractions that Cairns has to offer, as well as providing exceptional service for those in Far North Queensland heading to Singapore and beyond.”
An event was held at Cairns Airport this morning as flight MI812 opened for check in, with customers served with refreshments at the Cairns airport boarding gate to mark the occasion.
SilkAir’s investment in northern Australia will continue from 06 July 2019 with the introduction of a seventh weekly service from Darwin to Singapore.
