Cathay Pacific’s new Shanghai Business Lounge
Serenity Starts Here
Spearheading Cathay Pacific’s new brand ethos to “move beyond” for its customers, the newly renovated Cathay Pacific Lounge at Shanghai Pudong International Airport further elevates the passenger travel experience by providing a place for elite travellers to reinvigorate themselves before their flight. Cathay Pacific has created a new tranquil oasis for our passengers in the heart of the bustling airport.
Located near Departure Gate D69 in Pudong Airport’s Terminal 2 building, the new lounge follows the airline’s awards-winning design developed by Studioilse, the London-based design studio led by Ilse Crawford. This styling can already be seen across many of Cathay Pacific’s newest airport lounges across its global network.
The tone of the lounge has been designed to reflect the comfort and familiarity of a contemporary apartment, encompassing both the look and feel of the space. This relaxed theme is reflected in the choice of material, furniture, lighting, artwork, music and food, all of which have been carefully curated to emulate the idea of a real, modern home.
A warm, welcoming transition area where the friendly hospitality is immediately felt.
Designer furniture and lighting have been carefully selected for their practicality and comfort. Side tables with in-built lamps and sockets are placed around the Main Lounge.
The Food Hall is a vibrant space with a variety of self-serve food and beverage offerings. Passengers can pick up freshly made food and drink at the Servery counter, while a self-service bar allows passengers to mix their favourite cocktails.
Cathay Pacific’s signature Noodle Bar features customised Hong Kong-style furniture with stylish wood-slat ceiling and wooden ceiling fans adding to the overall aesthetic.
Freshly made popular dishes from Hong Kong, Shanghai and around the region are served at the Noodle Bar, with highlights including classic Cantonese Wonton Noodles, and Sichuan-style Dan Dan Noodles. A variety of freshly handmade dim sum is also served daily, including a Shanghainese favourite, Xiao Long Bao dumplings.
An L-shaped, open-ceiling verandah where passengers can enjoy panoramic views of the airport’s apron and runway.
Bespoke Solo Chairs, each equipped with a built-in reading lamp and an individual side table, are available for those looking for a quiet space to catch up on their work.
The lounge adopts high-quality, natural materials throughout, giving a sense of comfort and timelessness to the lounge. Materials used in the lounge include:
· Cherry wood, bringing warmth and sophistication to the lounge
· Limestone tiling for its durability and sleek appearance
· Bronze and brass for their chic, elegant qualities
· Tactile, durable leather- and Alcantara-upholstered designer furniture
· Carpet, which adds softness and sound absorption in select areas
· Golem green tiles, a nod to the classic Cathay Pacific Green
· Plants that add a natural, healthy touch to the environment
The lounge features a wide range of top-quality furniture, similar to what might be found in a comfortable, upscale apartment. The furniture and lighting are supplied by noted brands such as Fritz Hansen, Cassina, De La Espada, Knoll, Vitsœ, Living Divani, E15, Kalmar, Atelier Areti and Rich Brilliant Willing.
We have also developed and customised our own furniture, including the side tables with incorporated lights and sockets for ease of access and use. The furniture is grouped carefully to allow for maximum privacy for individual travellers, whilst giving the impression of a more social, domestic and non-corporate environment.
The overall Cathay Pacific experience has been assimilated into the creation of our own scent, which is a soothing blend of lavender, bamboo, green tea and jasmine. In using our brand scent, the arrival at a Cathay Pacific lounge is instantly recognisable and the passenger can relax in a familiar feeling of a comfortable home.
The lounge has been given a carefully curated music identity to reinforce the brand character and deliver individual music experiences.
