You’re our 3 millionth visitor: Saigon

Ho Chi Minh City welcomed its three millionth foreign visitor with a bang earlier this month, arranging a welcoming ceremony for Russian tourist Nina Fedorava.

Organised by the city’s Tourism Association and Department of Culture Sports and Tourism Ms Fedorava and her husband received the surprise of a life time after exiting their Vietnam Airlines flight on the 21 December, Saigon Daily reported.

Ms Fedorava expressed her gratitude towards the city and said she would definitely return to the country soon.

According to Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association deputy director La Quoc Khanh the city has exceeded its projected visitor numbers this year from 2.8 million to over three million.

Mr Khanh added that November saw a drastic growth compared to same time last year with an increase of up to 38 percent.

The city’s Deparment of Culture, Sports and Tourism has high hopes for the coming year anticipating an 11 percent increase over 2010 to 3.5 million foreign visitors.
